How Do I Add an Admin to My Facebook Page? (Step by Step)

Facebook replaced the old admin roles with Facebook access and task access. Here's how to give someone full control of your Page, on desktop or phone, and how to do it safely.

Table of contents

Short answer: in Facebook's current Pages experience, the old Admin role is now Facebook access with full control. To add one, switch into your Page, open Settings, go to Page setup → Page access, choose Add new under people with Facebook access, select the person, turn on full control and select Give access. They must accept the invitation. For agencies, give access through Meta Business Suite or your business portfolio instead, and only the permissions they need.

Why can't I see "Admin" any more?

Facebook retired the classic Page roles. Pages now use the Pages experience, where access is split into:

Access type What it allows
Facebook access, full control Everything, including removing others and deleting the Page (the old "Admin")
Facebook access, partial control Manage content, messages, ads and insights, but not people or Page deletion
Task access Specific tasks (content, messages, community activity, ads, insights) through tools such as Meta Business Suite, without switching into the Page

How do I add an admin on a computer?

  1. Switch into your Page (click your profile picture and choose the Page).
  2. Click the Page's profile picture and choose Settings & privacy → Settings.
  3. In the left menu, open Page setup, then Page access.
  4. Next to People with Facebook access, click Add new.
  5. Search for the person by name or email and select them.
  6. Turn on full control (for an admin) or leave it off for partial control.
  7. Click Give access and enter your password to confirm.

The person receives a notification and must accept before they can manage the Page.

How do I add an admin on my phone?

  1. Open the Facebook app and switch to your Page.
  2. Tap the menu (three lines), then Settings & privacy → Settings.
  3. Find Page setup and tap Page access.
  4. Tap Add new under people with Facebook access.
  5. Select the person, choose full control if needed and tap Give access.

Menu names occasionally change; if you can't find them, search "Page access" in Settings.

How should I give my agency or freelancer access?

Use Meta Business Suite or your business portfolio, not your login.

  • Add the agency as a partner to your business portfolio, or add individuals as people with the specific assets (Page, ad account, Instagram) they need
  • Give task access for the work they do (ads, content, messages)
  • Keep full control for owners only
  • Never share your personal password; Meta treats shared logins as a security risk

This keeps the business in control and makes it easy to remove access when a contract ends. See what to include in a marketing agency contract.

Why can't I add someone as an admin?

Problem Fix
You don't have full control yourself Ask someone with full control to add the person
You can't find the person Use their email, or ask them to check their privacy settings
They didn't accept Ask them to check notifications and accept the invite
Security check or temporary restriction Wait, confirm your identity, and try again later
The Page is managed in a business portfolio Add them through Business Suite settings instead

How do I keep my Page secure?

Keep two trusted owners, use two-factor authentication and remove old access promptly.

  • At least two people with full control from the business, so you're never locked out
  • Two-factor authentication for everyone with access
  • Review access every few months and remove former staff and agencies
  • Watch for scam messages pretending to be Meta and asking you to "verify" your Page
  • Consider Meta Verified for impersonation protection and support. See Meta Verified for business.

How do I remove someone's access?

Go to Settings → Page setup → Page access, find the person, and choose Remove next to their name. People with full control can remove others with full or partial control.

A worked example

A café owner set up the Facebook Page with a personal account years ago, and a former manager was the only other admin. The owner adds their business partner with full control, gives the new social media freelancer task access for content and messages through Business Suite, removes the former manager and turns on two-factor authentication for both owners. (Illustrative.)

Common mistakes

  • Only one person with full control
  • Sharing your Facebook password with an agency
  • Giving everyone full control
  • Forgetting to remove former staff
  • Clicking "verify your Page" links in messages

The bottom line

To add an admin today, give someone Facebook access with full control from Page setup → Page access, and ask them to accept. Give agencies task access through Business Suite instead, keep two trusted owners and protect every account with two-factor authentication.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make someone an admin on my Facebook Page?

Switch into your Page, go to Settings, then Page setup and Page access. Under people with Facebook access, select Add new, search for the person, turn on full control and select Give access. They need to accept the invite.

Why can't I find the Admin role on my Facebook Page?

Pages using Facebook's newer Pages experience no longer show Admin, Editor or Moderator roles. Instead, you give Facebook access with full or partial control, or task access for specific jobs.

Can I add an admin from the Facebook app?

Yes. Switch to your Page in the app, open the menu, go to Settings & privacy then Settings, find Page setup and Page access, select Add new and give the person access.

Should I give my marketing agency full control of my Page?

Usually not. Give agencies access through Meta Business Suite or your business portfolio with only the permissions they need, so the business keeps ownership and can remove access easily.

What should I do if I lost admin access to my Facebook Page?

Ask another person with full control to restore your access. If no one has access, use Meta's help centre recovery options and your business portfolio, if the Page is connected to one.
